Skype to the Rescue as the Pandemic Closes Schools

March 11, 2020
DESCRIPTION: For weeks, if not months, to come, schools around the world, at every level, are seeing a rapid shift to online learning (where possible) as countries and communities grapple with managing the risks posed by the emerging COVID-19 pandemic.

In this inaugural #SustainWhat video chat, you can learn about Skype a Scientist, an established platform through which scientists anywhere can connect with students anywhere:

This great communication innovation began life as the #skypeascientist hashtag on Twitter a couple years ago and is now a fast-growing nonprofit organization.

Your host is Andy Revkin, the founding director of the new Initiative on Communication and Sustainability at Columbia University's Earth Institute.

The guest is Dr. Sarah McAnulty, a research professor at the University of Connecticut who helped launch the Twitter campaign and now is the organization's executive director.

There's never been a more urgent moment for considering ways to connect students with scientists given the school closures that are rapidly spreading along with the coronavirus COVID-19.
