BIOGRAPHY: Vivien Gornitz, Center for Climate Systems Research Columbia University/NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, holds a B.A. from Barnard College and a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Her research interests include sea level rise on various timescales and regions, impacts of rising seas and storm flooding on the coastal zone, and more recently, the effects of climate change on the cryosphere. She is a member of the New York City Panel on Climate Change (NPCC) and has also contributed to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority ClimAID report. She was a Coordinating Lead Author in: Climate Change and Cities: Second Assessment Report of the Urban Climate Change Research Network, C. Rosenzweig, et al., eds., Cambridge University Press (2018), and was also a Contributing Author for the IPCC reports in 1990, 1995, 2001, and 2007. In addition to numerous scientific publications, she has written Rising Seas: Past, Present, and Future (Columbia University Press, 2013), edited the Encyclopedia of Paleoclimatology and Ancient Environments (2009) in the Springer Earth Science Series, has written several articles for the Encyclopedia of Coastal Science (2018) in that series, and has recently completed Vanishing Ice: Glaciers, Ice Sheets, and Rising Seas (Columbia University Press, 2019).
