Associate Research Scientist, Center for Climate Systems Research , NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS)
Affiliated with: , Center for Climate Systems Research (CCSR)
BIOGRAPHY: Elizabeth Fischer is investigating the long-term evolution of the Earth’s ice sheets — both how they are affected by a changing climate, and also how changes in the ice sheets feed back into the climate system. To that end, she is developing an energy-conserving coupling between the GISS climate model (ModelE) and regional-scale ice sheet models (PISM, ISSM). She is also involved in research on changes in the albedo of the Greenland Ice Sheet, and the GCM-scale modelling of sub-shelf ocean cavities in Antarctica. This research is carried on through collaboration with Sophie Nowicki (NASA Goddard Space Flight Center), Marco Tedesco (Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory) and others.
