Global variation of the fundamental radiative properties of ice clouds
DESCRIPTION: The aim of this NASA funded work is to use satellite measurements to obtain information on the global variation of the fundamental radiative properties of ice clouds. Radiometric and polarimetric measurements are combined for this. In addition, a parameterization of the fundamental optical properties of ice crystals is developed for the use in cloud and climate models.
OUTCOMES: A global dataset of ice cloud optical thickness and ice crystals efective radius, aspect ratio, distortion and asymmetry parameters was processed and analyzed. A ice crystal optical properties computer code and look-up-table was developed.
