Geo-Referenced Infrastructure and Demographic Data for Development (GRID3) Education Baseline
CSD’s Education Team is working with Columbia’s Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) on a project called Geo-referenced Infrastructure and Demographic Data for Development (GRID3). The project is facilitating the collection, analysis, integration, dissemination, and utilization of high-resolution population, infrastructure, and other reference data to support national development priorities, humanitarian efforts, health, and sustainable development goals.
The project aims to increase developing countries’ capabilities for mapping population distribution. These maps will help ensure that everyone is counted, especially the most vulnerable; will help refine development priorities; and will extend and improve the scope and efficacy of development efforts. The project is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID). CSD has been applying the GRID3 geo-referenced maps to align with the Nigerian Education Policy, aiding decision making in that country.
