Establishing a Long-Term Geodetic Network at the East Pacific Rise Ridge 2000 Integrated Studies Site
DESCRIPTION: The program will initiate a long-term geodetic time series by making campaign-style pressure measurements at ten seafloor benchmarks once per year for three years using a mobile pressure recorder to determine the relative elevation of the East Pacific Rise. This will help to determine magma movement and faulting.
OUTCOMES: All ten MPRs were deployed and data collected using the wrong ROV due to a shipping mistake. Data was collected during the last cruise with the correct ROV but bad weather still limited the quality of the data. Found evidence of inflation of about 12cm, or about ~7cm/yr with a source depth of about 2.7km.
