Distribution, Persistence, and Resuspension of Sediment-Associated Pathogenic Bacteria in the Hudson River
DESCRIPTION: To help assess the risk and potential management actions associated with sediment-activated fecal indicator bacteria in the Hudson River Estuary the project will determine it sediment FIB correlates to water-column FIB, determine if sediment FIB correlates to sediment organic content and grain size, determine the persistence of sediment FIB as a function of temperature and organic content, and quantify the resuspension potential of FIB from different sediments. This will be done using field observations and controlled experiments.
OUTCOMES: Field work for the first two objectives is 75% done, and Enterococci and E. Coli concentrations have been quantified. Field work for the third objective is 85% complete and persistence experiments for both Enterococci and E. Coli conducted.
