A M-Sequence Geomagnetic Polarity Time Scale that Minimizes Global Spreading Rate Variations and Incorporates Cyclostratigraphic Information
DESCRIPTION: The project will improve the M-sequence geomagnetic polarity time scale by: 1) using Monte Carlo to generate a geomagnetic polarity time scale that results in minimal spreading rate fluctuations over multiple spreading centers; and 2) using magnetic polarity chron durations estimated from cyclostratigraphic studies to calibrate and constrain the geomagnetic polarity time scale.
OUTCOMES: Data has been assembled, a Monte Carlo algorithm developed, and Monte Carlo code run numerous times. Results from the M-sequence have been presented and a NFE given to complete publication of them. One journal article published and one one-time publication.
