Climate Science Synthesis and Analysis to Support NPS Scenario Workshop
DESCRIPTION: The goal of this project is for Center for Climate Systems Research (CCSR) scientists to collaboratively work with the National Park Service Climate Change Response Program, to produce climate science information for coastal and urban landscape issues in and around the New York City Metropolitan Area. This synthesized information will be used to inform a workshop hosted by the National Park Service to link climate change scenario planning with model-driven scenarios, especially those produced through or sanctioned by the National Climate Assessment. The objective of the workshop is to better understand how climate change scenarios can inform management decisions, including how and where they may best be applied as a tool for climate change adaptation.
OUTCOMES: Climate risk information for the New York City Metropolitan Area has been developed and was presented at the National Park Service Workshop in June, 2012. Columbia scientists worked with National Park Service officials to develop this information, selecting the most relevant climate variables and placing the information into the framework used by the Park Service.
