Project Type: Research

DESCRIPTION: The Agricultural Model Intercomparison and Improvement Project (AgMIP) is a major international collaborative effort to assess the state of global agricultural modeling and to understand climate impacts on the agricultural sector. AgMIP's mission is to improve substantially the characterization of world food security as affected by climate variability and change, and to enhance adaptation capacity in both developing and developed countries.

OUTCOMES: Open proposal process conducted for AgMIP interdisciplinary regional projects in Sub Saharan Africa and South Asia; 10 AgMIP regional projects selected, including 2 regional coordination projects; improved method for Integrated Regional Assessment (IRA) of climate change impacts on agriculture developed; training on improved IRA methods at three regional workshops (Mt. Kenya, Hyderabad, Accra); handbook on climate change and agroecosystems published with AgMIP regional partner chapter authors and support; developed partnerships to link key projects and programs
