Project Type: Research

DESCRIPTION: Scientists will concentrate on monitoring and accounting methods to develop an inventory technology that makes it possible for the public to gain trust in the reality, safety and permanence of geologic carbon dioxide storage.

OUTCOMES: 2009-2012: Outcomes include the design of the carbon-14 (14C) filling station and micro-cartridge systems for tracer gas injection; a laboratory-scale evaluation of the injection and detection systems; the development and field testing of a 14CO2 detection system using laser-based 14C analysis with IntraCavity OptoGalvanic Spectroscopy (ICOGS); and the continual analysis of hazards and environmental concerns associated with the project.
