Atlantic Multidecadal Variability: Mechanisms, Impact, and Predictability: A Study using Observations and IPCC AR4 Model Simulations

Lead PI: Dr. Yochanan Kushnir

Unit Affiliation: Ocean & Climate Physics, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO)

August 2009 - June 2013
Inactive
Atlantic Ocean
Project Type: Research

DESCRIPTION: The project will attempt a diagnostic analysis of output from a set of IPCC coupled models to catalog the AMV exhibited in these models, its climatic impacts over land, its link to AMOC and atmospheric variability, and its predictability. These will use three classes: pre-industrial control runs, ensemble integrations with known 20th century external forcings, and projected forcings. Linear inverse modeling will be used to examine AMV from these analyses.
