The Earth Institute Fellows Symposium: Meeting the Challenges of Sustainable Development in a Changing World

Speaker: Alexandra Morel

A reforestation project was launched in two watersheds along the Haitian border. The design of this effort involved hiring local teams of reforestation brigades and landowners volunteering their land for reforestation sites. This presentation will briefly present results of a one-month field campaign that collected 200 household surveys from 20 communities within these two watersheds. This research will look at the dynamic between socio-economic insecurity and localized environmental degradation.
