Core Activities
At the national level, the core activities
of the Quick Impact Initiative aim at strengthening the capacity
of national disease control programs for rapid scaling-up and
include:
- Assist countries in developing comprehensive plans for malaria
and neglected tropical diseases and grant proposals, linked
with national MDG-based development strategies.
- Assist countries in developing business plans for activities
supported by funding agents, including the Global Fund to Fight
AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM).
- Work with national and international partners to break national
bottlenecks to the disbursement of funds and scaling-up of
activities already supported by funding agents. These bottlenecks,
in the case of malaria, may include GFTAM funds that require
clarification, approved funds pending the signing of contract
between principal recipient and the GFATM and procurement of
key anti-malarial commodities to initiate funded activities.
- Define process and impact indicators for assessing implementation
of national programs and impact of interventions.
At the international level, the core activities of the Quick
Impact Initiative aim to address system-wide
bottlenecks and country-level work and partnerships on malaria
and neglected tropical diseases:
- Establish and/or strengthen the network of national program
managers to facilitate exchange in resolving various bottlenecks
to scaling-up of diseases control activities.
- Work with countries, funding agents, and policymakers to
establish better approaches to securing adequate and timely
supply of high-quality commodities at lowest costs. One prominent
approach, which has received strong support from endemic countries
and key stakeholders at the Stockholm meeting, is the establishment
of a more effective pooled procurement mechanism.
- Work with in-country public health experts and
national program managers to resolve bottleneck situations in
various countries, as needed.
