Description:
Over one billion tons of solid wastes are generated annually and are either discarded on land or water or are disposed in landfills. In both cases, there are adverse effects on the environment, including greenhouse gas and effluent emissions, and loss of non-renewable resources. The Waste-to-Energy Research and Technology Council headquartered at Columbia seeks to maximize the material(recycling) and energy (Waste-to-Energy) recovery from used solids.
