January 27th: Financial Times

An article entitled "Oil Curse Stalks Africa's New Petro State" details Sao Tome's effort to avoid the resource curse, with reference to the Earth Institute's work on revenue management.

An article summarizing Sao Tome's newly signed oil revenue management laws, drafted with the assistance of the Earth Institute advisory team.

An Op-Ed piece by Earth Institute Fellow Martin Sandbu in Portugal's Publico newspaper, entitled "Sao Tome can End Africa's Natural Resource Curse."

August 12: Earth Institute News

A press release entitled "Sao Tome Set to Vote on Unprecedented Oil Revenue Laws" summarizes the Earth Institute's consultancy work in Sao Tome and Principe on oil revenue management and development priorities.

August 10: Vanguard

This report from a Nigerian newspaper describes a joint declaration of openness between the governments of Sao Tome and Nigeria on the contracts and payments related to development of their common oil resources, or Joint Development Zone (JDZ).  The article refers to the Earth Institute's role in drafting a legal framework ensuring a transparent and stable national oil fund in Sao Tome.

August 3: Dagens Næringsliv (Norwegian Business Daily)

An article (in Norwegian) by Earth Institute Fellow Martin Sandbu entitled "Transforming the History of Africa."  This short article details several of the postive steps recently taken by the government of Sao Tome and Principe toward transparent and responsible management of potential oil revenues.  An English translation will be posted soon.

A summary of the 2004 Retreat on Economic and Security Issues in Africa and the Caribbean Basin, co-sponsored by The Earth Institute and the Humpty Dumpty Institute.  The retreat was intended to promote direct dialogue between members of the Congressional Black Caucus and African delegates to the United Nations.
