STP National Forum

São Tomé e Príncipe 2004 National Forum Results

During the 56 decentralized Forum meetings, Santomeans discussed a series of topics relating to the state and future of STP. The results of their deliberations were recorded in a questionnaire (English version) (Portuguese version) and entered into a database. The data from the Forum was processed using STATA statistical software, and presented to a team of local consultants retained by the Forum's Executive Secretariat. These consultants utilized the Columbia data analyses to perform more extensive reporting concerning the current state of São Tomé e Príncipe, and development priorities indicated by the results of the community meetings.

The documents compiled by the Columbia team included a 68-page tabular summary of each question in the questionnaire, including level of concordance, mean response, and analyses by primary community economic activity, geographical location, gender, and age. A 16-page graphical summary was also generated, focusing on response by geographical location. This summary of the data, as well as a qualitative local consultants' report were presented to community delegates attending the plenary sessions of July 5, 6, and 7, as a basis for discussion of national and community priorities. The consultants then incorporated the conclusions and issues arising from these discussions into a summary report and list of recommendations.  These documents--as well as the initial Columbia team data summary--were presented to government ministers, deputies, and other officials in the final session of the National Forum on July 11.
